NEW YORK (AP) The American Travel Association, which represents nearly 20,000 travel agencies and travelers worldwide, has opened a new office in New York City and plans to open another office in Miami later this year.
The association’s president, Mariam S. Eliza, said the move comes as the economy has recovered and the number of Americans applying for jobs has been falling.
The industry has seen job losses and a rise in visa applications, Eliza said.
“So, you know, the economy is a little better and the demand is going up, but it’s still quite a bit below pre-recession levels.”
The association has had several other offices open in the U.S. over the past year.
In June, it opened a branch in Orlando, Fla., and later opened a office in Philadelphia.
